Endoscopy means looking inside and typically refers to looking inside the body for medical reasons using an instrument called endoscope. The instrument may have a rigid or flexible tube and provide an image for visual inspection and photography.

Preparing for endoscopy
Do not wear jewellery such as ring, ear studs, earrings, necklace and bracelets.
For ladies, please remove nail varnishes. Do not wear high heel shoes.
Do not bring children.
Sedation Advise
A relative or friend must be available to accompany you home if sedation is given. You may feel sleepy and forgetful due to the sedation.
Do not drive, sign legal document, operate machinery, exercise and drink alcohol.
Diet Advise
DO NOT eat or drink from 12 midnight onwards if your procedure is in the morning.
What happens during the procedure?
The whole procedure usually takes between 2 – 4 hours which includes time for registration, preparation, procedure, recovery and discharge.
Local anaesthesia or the oropharynx using lignocaine spray with or without intravenous sedation would be given. If sedation is given, your pulse rate and oxygen level would be monitored with a finger probe throughout the procedure.
Sedation given to me
There wasn’t any uclers found in my stomach. Yeah! My next appointment with the doctor is scheduled to be in October since there is nothing too seriously wrong with me.
JR waited for me at the reception area of the Endoscopy Centre. There is a LCD screen there showing the relatives & friends of the patients’ process status.
