Happy Birthday to my dearest hubby!!!
We had initially planned to attend Kody’s 1st birthday party lunch on 31st. Unfortunately, we had to skip the party as JR had HFMD ! We were all confined at home for a week and just a day before his birthday, JR recovered and got clearance of HFMD from the doctor. It was time to celebrate!
I always have the problem of choosing where to dine on my hubby’s birthday day. Firstly, it is always very crowded outside on the last day of the year and there often only offer special menus, which are also more expensive, on New Year’s Eve. This year we have 2 more kids to bring along so we still had to eliminate atas restaurants which have no-child policy… I prefer to bring all my kids along as I think we should celebrate birthdays together in a family. And so, we decided to have Dim Sum brunch at Shisen Hanten, a two Michelin-starred restaurant at Mandarin Orchard hotel.
We were here at 11 AM sharp for the 1st seating.
We were seated in the center of the room because they couldn’t put baby seats at the window tables. It was fine for us as our table was the closest to the Peking Duck buffet table. I love the pretty chandeliers hanging off the ceilings.
We started off with the Peking Duck – some of them had only the duck meat instead of the skin.
A waitress went around the room distributing small dishes of appetizers to the tables. We took the salmon sashimi, cha siew, roasted chicken and century eggs.
Our table full of Dim Sum .
And more Dim Sum.

The Dim Sum brunch also include a soup (1 serving per person), 3 servings of Chef Selections per table, 1 serving of rice / noodles per table and a braised whole abalone (1 serving per person). We ordered the signature Mapo Toufu.
Stir fried mashed fish noodles with XO sauce
Stir fried chicken with chilies and cashews. We loved this dish.
Stir fried scallops with XO sauce
A complimentary slice of cake for JR’s birthday. I didn’t take photos of the other dishes we had because our hands were busy with the 3 kiddos . We completed our meal with a serving of dessert each. Our verdict: the Dim Sum brunch was value for $$ but the food at Crystal Jade seems to be better
Steamboat dinner at night, using the new 鸳鸯锅…! JR finally bought it after considering getting one for years.
He bought the right amount of food this round, nothing was left, no wastage of food . We ended another year with steamboat dinner while watching the New Year countdown in Taiwan !
Happy New Year everyone! Hope 2017 is a better year for all of us!
