Date: 02 May 2011 Monday

We began our 1 week DBIB course today. We gathered in the hotel lobby in the morning for the chartered bus to FGV. Almost all of the coursemates were staying in the same hotel. Anyway, we started day 1 of the DBIB course and lessons ended in the mid afternoon for a outdoor networking trip to Pão de Açúcar, the Sugarloaf Mountain!

Took some photos of the buildings & streets of Rio on the way to Pão de Açúcar.

17:20 PM Pão de Açúcar, Sugarloaf Mountain

Arrived at the cable car station, Teleferico Pão de Açúcar.

Souvenirs anyone?

My cable car ticket

Passengers are required to take two cable cars to reach the summit of the Pão de Açúcar. The first cable car will bring us to the shorter Morro de Açúcar and the second one to Pão de Açúcar. The Pão de Açúcar is a peak situated in Rio de Janeiro, at the mouth of Guanabara Bay. It got its name, Sugarloaf Mountain, as it resembles the traditional shape of concentrated refined loaf sugar.

The Pão de Açúcar

Waiting for the next ride up to the Pão de Açúcar.

It was already dark when we finally reached the summit of Pão de Açúcar. The sky wasn’t clear that evening hence we didn’t get to see the sunset.

Can you see that bright light at the top left hand corner of the photo? That’s not a star! It’s the statue of Christ the Redeemer!

18:30 PM Morro de Açúcar

We went back down to the Morro de Açúcar for a cocktail networking session organised for us.

Passion Fruit and Lime cocktails & snacks

Returning … waiting for the cable car again to bring us back down.

We were brought back to the hotel straight after the networking event. We ended our day 3 in Brazil without dinner…
